Suppression, unsubscribe and consent

What the platform enforces for you, so you cannot forget it.

About 5 minutes

Outbound has legal obligations. Foreman enforces the main ones at the platform level rather than leaving them to the person writing the campaign — because the failure mode of "remember to check the suppression list" is that someone does not.

What is enforced

Suppression. A suppressed contact does not receive outbound, from any campaign, regardless of who enrolled them.

Unsubscribe. Outbound carries an unsubscribe path, and acting on it suppresses that contact going forward.

Exit-on-reply. A prospect who replies stops receiving the sequence automatically.

SMS opt-out. Every SMS carries STOP/HELP opt-out, and a number that opts out — or is otherwise suppressed — receives nothing further.

Sanctions screening. Contacts are screened, and re-screened, rather than checked once at import.

What is still yours

The platform enforces mechanism, not judgement. You remain responsible for having a lawful basis to contact someone, for honouring regional rules that apply to your business, and for what your messages actually say.

Gotchas

  • Suppression is workspace-wide and permanent by default. That is the correct default — un-suppressing someone should be a deliberate act.
  • A contact who replies "no thanks" has exited the sequence, not been suppressed. If they should never be contacted again, suppress them explicitly.
